(TAX UPDATE) Filing a Tax Appeal Just Got Simpler. HASiL Launches e-Rayuan Taksiran on the MyTax Portal
Issued: KTP Tax Alert | 3 June 2026
Introduction
You open your post one morning and find a notice of additional assessment from HASiL. The figure is higher than you expected. You are convinced it is wrong.
The clock starts ticking. Under Section 99 of the Income Tax Act 1967, you have 30 days from the date of service to file your appeal.
In the past, that meant printing your Form Q, assembling your supporting documents, and making your way to a HASiL branch before the deadline closed in. For a business owner in Johor Bahru, that often meant losing half a working day.
From 1 June 2026, that no longer needs to be the case.
What Has Changed
HASiL has launched the e-Tax Assessment Appeal service, known as e-Rayuan Taksiran, on the MyTax portal.
You can now file an appeal against an assessment raised under the Income Tax Act 1967, or apply for an extension of time to file that appeal, entirely online. There is no longer a need to walk into a HASiL office for eligible cases.
This is the same process you already know. The difference is that the submission, the tracking, and the correspondence now sit in one digital place.
What the Service Covers, and What It Does Not
The online facility applies to ordinary income tax assessment appeals. It does not extend to every type of dispute.
The following cases are excluded and will continue to follow their existing procedures until HASiL advises otherwise:
Capital Gains Tax (CGT);
Withholding Tax; and
Assessments raised as a result of investigation activities.
If your case falls into one of these three categories, the online channel is not available to you. You will need to follow the manual route as before.
How to Access the Service
The pathway is straightforward.
Visit the MyTax portal at https://mytax.hasil.gov.my
Log in and select your role. The options are Individual, Company Director, Organisation Administrator, or Estate Administrator, depending on who you are filing for.
Navigate to ezHasil Services, select e-Appeal, then Tax Assessment Appeal.
Refer to the Tax Assessment Appeal User Manual on the e-Appeal page before you complete your submission.
We would encourage you to read the user manual first. A correct submission at the first attempt saves you the trouble of a rejection on a technicality.
Who Files Under Which Role
Choosing the correct role matters, because the system links the appeal to the right taxpayer profile.
Individual taxpayers file under the Individual role.
Companies file through an appointed company officer or director using the Company Director role.
Non-company entities such as cooperatives, trusts, and Limited Liability Partnerships file through the Organisation Administrator role.
For an Sdn Bhd, this means the director or the authorised officer must have the correct MyTax access set up in advance. If that access is not in place, the appeal cannot be submitted on time. This is worth checking before a dispute arises, not after.
What This Means for You in Practice
The practical gains are real.
You can now submit an appeal or an extension application from your office or your phone, in real time. You can check the status of your case as it moves through review and processing. You will receive acceptance letters, rejection letters, and decisions on extension applications electronically, in one organised trail.
For tax agents, finance managers, and company directors, this should improve the speed of submission, the tracking of appeal status, the management of documents, and the line of communication with HASiL.
There is one point we want you to hold on to. The 30-day deadline under Section 99 has not changed. The portal makes filing faster. It does not give you more time. If you intend to appeal, you still need to act within the statutory window, and you still need to apply for an extension under Section 100 if you cannot meet it.
KTP's View
This is a welcome step in HASiL's wider digital transformation, and SMEs stand to benefit from it.
The value of an appeal, however, has never rested on how you submit the form. It rests on the strength of your grounds and the quality of your supporting evidence.
A faster channel does not change that. An appeal filed in haste, without a clear basis and proper documentation, is still an appeal likely to fail. The convenience of e-Rayuan Taksiran should encourage you to prepare your case properly, not to file it casually.
If you have received an assessment you believe is incorrect, our advice is unchanged. Review the notice carefully, confirm whether your case is eligible for the online channel, and seek professional guidance before the 30-day clock runs out.
We are happy to help you assess the merits of your appeal and prepare it correctly the first time.
