Summary of learning

1.     Effective from 1 September 2020, all employers and centralized accommodation providers who provide accommodation or centralized accommodation shall follow the Minimum requirement on the Amenities.

2.     Minimum requirement on the Amenities

*        Basic amenities required which shall not be shared: -

*         A single bed with not less than 1.7sqm and if space between the double-decker bed shall not less than 0.7m;

*        A mattress (thickness of not less than 4 inches), a pillow and a blanket; and

*         A locked cupboard of not less than L 0.35m x W 0.35m x H 0.9m for safe custody of the employees’ valuables item

*       Size of floor area for bedroom and sleeping area

*         Non-dormitory: not less than 3.6sqm for each employee

*       Dormitory: not less than 3sqm for each employee

*        Supply for water and electricity

3.     Commits an offence

*        Any centralized accommodation provider who fail to comply is liable to a fine of not exceeding RM1,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.

*        An employer who fail to comply is liable to a fine of not exceeding RM50,000.00.
